Puppy & Kitten Care: Starting Off on the Right Paw

Staff examing dog

Whether a first time pet owner or simply adding another member to the family, having a new puppy or kitten in the home is an exciting time. The veterinary team at Centreville Animal Hospital looks forward to sharing this experience with our patients, providing you the tools and services needed to ensure your new family member has a long and healthy life.

Pet Wellness & Vaccinations

Schedule an appointment for all new pets within the first couple weeks of bringing them home, so they can receive a full physical assessment of their health. This initial visit includes the following:

  • A head to tail examination, checking the teeth, coat, ears, eyes, throat, heart, and lungs to ensure overall health
  • Booster vaccinations as a preventive measure against common diseases such as rabies and distemper, as well as any particular infectious risks that are in your pet’s environment or lifestyle
  • At-home dental care tips
  • Information about specific breed and lifestyles, addressing any concerns or risk factors for which you should take precautions.

Spaying & Neutering

This surgical procedure not only decreases the number of unplanned litters, it can also reduce undesirable behaviors such urinating in the house, roaming, and aggressiveness. In addition, spaying and neutering can lower the risk of certain cancers and infections.

Parasite Prevention

A physical examination along with simple diagnostic tests can check your pet for fleas, ticks, or intestinal parasites. These pesky, unwanted guests not only create an uncomfortable living environment for your pet, but can also lead to illness in the rest of your family. Our veterinary team discusses simple and easy preventative products that you can use, to provide year round protection for your family pet.
